Ric Hyde was born in Lewisham, London in 1936. At the age of 13 he studied at The Camberwell School of Arts.
After completing military service in Germany, he spent two years at the Slade School of Fine Art. Then after a spell in Lowestoft, working as a trawler man he moved to Dartmoor to paint. Soon returning to London to work on his first exhibition at the Bramanti Gallery, St James.
He now lives and works in North Cornwall.
Some important influences:
Bombed London, seedy clubs in London, William Blake, Lucas Cranach, Modigliani, Indian Miniatures, German forests, rivers, ponds, and the female form.

I use photos, drawings memories. The Characters in groups (and families) seem isolated from each other, dysfunctional, straining to comprehend.

The paintings are more distinctively poetic/erotic, more decorative.
